VW Caddy Racer Makes Racing Debut

The new Volkswagen Caddy Racer makes it first track outing at Snetterton over the weekend, 14-15 May in the 2011 Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Even though the car the car managed only 11th and 14th places in the two races, Volkswagen is pleased with the results.It started 15th from qualifying in race 1 with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK director, Simon Elliott, at the wheel and managed to cross the line 11th, while in race 2 even though he’d moved up to eighth position by the first corner, at the end he couldn’t do better than 14th.

Completely new for the 2011 season, the new Caddy Racer is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine developing 270 PS, channelled through the front wheels via a six-speed Volkswagen Racing quick shift gearbox.  In addition to this, the rear axle has been uprated to the multi-link system found in the road-going Golf.

Rounds 5 and 6 of the Volkswagen Racing Cup takes place at Brands Hatch over the weekend of 18-19 June.
