As the racing and performance arm of the Swedish car maker Volvo, Polestar has been given the mission to prepare a full-on race car based on the Vovlo C30 for the World Touring Car Championship series.

And so they came up with the Polestar Volvo C30 DRIVe WTCC that is close to what they created as a concept car for the roads. The car begins its racing career this season but not as a fully-fledged racer because the company sees 2011 season as an opportunity to test and evaluate the car. They want to create a perfect car before they fully get into it in 2012.

Polestar Volvo C30 DRIVe will begin the season in Brazil powered by a 2.0 liter engine and Robert Dahlgren at the wheel. Later in the year they will switch to the official 1.6 liter turbo engine. The first race of the year is also going to showcase a new livery of the Volvo C30 DRIVe racing car which is close to the blue color of the prototype concept.

Volvo Cars has given us a sound mission to evaluate the championship, meaning that we are initially not focusing on results but rather on preparing a base that we could build upon for 2012. We have got an exciting and rewarding challenge ahead of us,” said Christian Dahl, Managing Director of Polestar Racing. The Polestar Racing prepared Volvo C30 DRIVe is a proven winner with multiple titles and race victories in the Swedish and Scandinavian Touring Car Championships.
