Mazda MX-5 doesn’t really need motorpsort pedigree in order to sell in millions, but it’s always cool for a car to have such background.

So Mazda teamed up with Jota Racing to enter a very special version of the lightweight roadster dubbed GT to the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship 2011. The racing version is even lighter than the production model which itself is famous for being incredibly light! The engineers have revised everything to make sure the car doesn’t weigh more than 850 kg. So with 275 bhp it has great power to weight ratio that enables it to go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds and hit 160 mph max speed.

For safety considerations, FIA enforces use of mandatory equipments like roll cage, race seats and harness, external electric cut-off and fire extinguisher, safety catches on the bonnet and boot lids, competition steering wheel and alloy wheels. Otherwise the MX-5 GT would have been even lighter and faster!

The car also features a six speed sequential paddle shift gearbox, carbon doors and Polycarbonate windows. On the exterior, the Mazda MX-5 GT boasts a Spirited Green metallic body colour – a first on the MX-5 for Mazda UK.
