Fastest Car At Goodwood 2011

July 5, 2011 at 9:19 am

The glorious Goodwood Festival of Speed recognized the fastest car to take on the hill this year, and no it’s not the new Lamborghini Aventador or the Pagani Huayra. It is an old and knackered Toyota Celica! Powered by a rally engine and boosted with turbochargers and nitrous, this purpose-built Toyota makes an incredible 800 bhp and went up the hill in 48.07 seconds. The engine is from a World Rally Championship winning Corolla, newly fitted with a Rotrex supercharger that will help raise maximum output to more than 800bhp. A nitrous oxide injection system helped reduce turbo-lag for quicker acceleration off the line. The car was driven and built by former British Rally Champion, Jonny Milner. Based on the [...]

The Japanese car maker is about to make a big return to the sportscar segment, with something that will be a lot like that you see here. It’s called the GRMN SPORTS HYBRID Concept II and it’s an updated version of a petrol-electric sports concept shown at Tokyo Auto Salon in 2010. The vehicle features advanced styling and an improved sports-hybrid AWD system with the main power unit (petrol engine, rear-wheel drive motors and transmission) mid-mounted in conjunction with a front-wheel drive motor. 2011 Toyota Avensis BTCC

March 28, 2011 at 8:22 pm

As you know Toyota will return to Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2011. Granted, they won’t be involved directly in BTCC, but will support privateer teams who will race with the new Avensis BTCC. Dynojet Racing and Hughes Motorsport/Speedworks are the two teams who will run the Avensis BTCC this season and will kick off next weekend at at Brands Hatch Grand Prix. They are having some problems though, due to the component delays which mean Frank Wrathall’s Dynojet Avensis car will not undergo shakedown tests until early next week. Tony Hughes also had some power steering and fuel pump issues which brought his shakedown run to a halt. They received a good reception by BTCC fans at [...]

Gazoo Toyota iQ Racing Concept

January 17, 2011 at 8:57 pm

A Racing version of Toyota iQ? Absolutely, why not! At 2011 Tokyo Auto Salon Toyota revealed the GRMN (Gazoo Racing tuned by MN) iQ Racing Concept, a show car based on the city car which is prepared for racing with a massive body kit, supercharged engine and a roll-cage. They have not mentioned it, but it can be produced in little numbers. Of course the tiny three-cylinder engine of the iQ is not a race-bred unit, even with the supercharger. But it can make even the production version a bit less depressing to drive! Gazoo’s previous iQ concept car was given a limited production run in Japan that sold out immediately in 2009. But they will supply private teams with cars and technical support. James Thompson, a BTCC double champion, will pilot the Avensis NGTC when it makes its first public race appearance at Brands Hatch on 9 – 10 October. That [...]
