Volkswagen has won the Dakar Rally 2011 for the third consecutive year and repeated the 1-2-3 podium lockout which they did last year. Since the event has been moved to South America Volkswagen has won every year.

The 2011 race was won by Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah, his German co-driver Timo Gottschalk using the new Race Touareg 3. Al-Attiyah is the first ever Arab to win the Dakar Rally in the 33 year history of the event.
