VW Caddy Racer Makes Racing Debut

The new Volkswagen Caddy Racer makes it first track outing at Snetterton over the weekend, 14-15 May in the 2011 Volkswagen Racing Cup. Even though the car the car managed only 11th and 14th places in the two races, Volkswagen is pleased with the results.It started 15th from qualifying in race 1 with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK director, Simon Elliott, at the wheel and managed to cross the line 11th, while in race 2 even though he’d moved up to eighth position by the first corner, at the end he couldn’t do better than 14th. Commercial Vehicle Shows are usually boring, but this year’s event in Birmingham was actually quite interesting thanks to cars like this, the Volkswagen Caddy Racer. This latest racing version of the versatile Caddy will compete as part of Volkswagen Racing Cup with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ director Simon Elliott once again behind the wheel. The car features anew exterior with a cool white and orange racing livery and features a 2.0-litre petrol engine which develops 270 PS, channelled through the front wheels via a six-speed Volkswagen Racing quick shift gearbox. Volkswagen is now more involved in motorsport than ever, with entries in 24-hour race Nürburgring, Formula 3 Euro Series, as well as their own one-make series and rally events. They just announced plans for April and by the looks of things they are going to have to a very busy month. Golf GTI Excessive Concept

Even though there are a whole lot of more powerful hatchbacks out there, but Golf GTI has always been the undisputed king of hot hatches. At 2010 Worthersee tuning show in Austria, VW has revealed a new concept based on the mighty GTI, which is called the Excessive. As the name suggests, it is a sportier more aggressively styled version of the GTI. The car features wider tracks, and it’s also lower. It features an add-on front spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and a roof wing and smoked lights as well as tinted windows. 2010 Volkswagen Racing Cup Calendar

This weekend at Oulton Park in Cheshire, VW Racing Cup return for the 2010 championship as the brand celebrates its 10th season in the UK. This year 28 drivers for the single make championship, while three teams will compete for the coveted 2010 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series with nine Dallara-Volkswagens. This season there are a number of cars including the new new Scirocco, a ‘Herbie’-liveried Beetle RSI and various examples of the Golf GTI, and a diesel-powered Caddy Racer van driven by Simon Elliott, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
