And here’s Mercedes contender for 2012 DTM season, based on the new C Class Coupe AMG.

Visually it looks even cooler than Audi’s new race car, with its massive wings and stuff, and of course the ever awesome Mercedes silver and black racing colors. Mechanically though, the car is pretty much similar to the Audi, because they are built based on certain standards to make DTM competitive and then worth to watch! The new season imposes tougher safety regulations and cost reduction policies will also be applied.

Given all the boundaries, Mercedes seem to have done a good job. Development, design and manufacture of the new car began in June 2010 at HWA headquarters in Affalterbach, near Stuttgart, Germany. HWA is responsible for production of the cars, including engines.

The car replaces the AMG Mercedes C-Class, which is the most successful vehicle in the 27-year history of the DTM, having scored 84 victories in 156 races and five driver’s titles.
