British sportscar maker Lotus is celebrating their return to Formula 1 with a special edition of Exige S which is called the Type 72, in honor of the Lotus Type 72 Formula 1 racer of 1970s, the most successful F1 car of all time.

Lotus Exige S Type 72 comes with a special black and gold paint job inspired by the original livery of the F1 Type 72 and is also fitted with black and gold light weight alloy wheels. As a sign of exclusivity, each Type 72 Exige will carry a plate commemorating one of the F1 car’s 20 Grand Prix victories.

The power comes from the same four-cylinder Toyota engine as in the rest of the range, and since the car is feather weight at 935 kg it’ll be able to accelerate to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 145 mph.

Exige Type 72 has the Lotus’ traction control system and adjustable front anti-roll bar, for the sake of swell handling and it also comes as standard with the Sport pack featuring a bespoke high quality interior, including black micro fibre ProBax sports seats with gold stitching, a T45 steel main roll hoop.
