The IZOD Indycar organization has instructed teams to reduce their costs by 2012, and Honda as the engine supplier responded quickly by introducing the new generation of Indy engines.

Following the new Formula, they are making 2.4 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engines which will replace the current 3.5 liter V8 monsters. They will be just as powerful but ore efficient.

Honda says that new engines also have 40 percent lower running cost as well.

“With a passionate and energetic new title sponsor in IZOD, dynamic new management at its helm, and plans to significantly reshape its on-track product in the near future, the IndyCar Series is poised for significant growth,” Berkman continued. “We are delighted to take a role in that promising future.”
