Porsche is still working on its electric sportscar Boxster E and although it’s not yet ready for production, every now and then they being it out of the factory. Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Berlin was one of the occasions the car showed up at and gave us more details.

The specs of the car are just amazing. Not sure how true they are, but according to Porsche it has two electric motor, four-wheel-drive, weighs 1600 kg, and with a combined power of 181 kW and max torque of 540 Nm it can do 0 to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds with a limited top speed of 124 mph or 200 km/h. And since it has the same mid-engined layout as the Boxster it should also handle well. And it has zero emissions. Best of both worlds then.

It’s not all sweetness and light though. As with every EV you have the issue of recharging which includes finding a plug and then waiting nine hours for it to get topped up. You could get a fast charging facility or your home, but you will still be stumped if you take your car out of the town.

It is a very inciting prospect though, and sure some day some body will come up with a solution for the charging problems. So get ready for an electric future!
