Chevy Camaro ZL1 Gets 580-hp

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 finally gets its official power figures, and we are glad to report it’s not disappointing. The exact opposite actually, it’s heartwarming!

The ZL1 is officially rated at 580 horsepower (432 kW) and 556 lb.-ft. of torque (754 Nm) – making it the most-powerful production Camaro ever. It is also packed with technology, including items like  lower-restriction air filter, dual inlet paths, engine-oil cooler, identical to the system on the Corvette ZR1, rear-differential cooler, high-performance fuel system, and the third-generation of Magnetic Ride Control (MRC).

All that is there to make sure you experience an exhilarating and thrilling drive every time you take the Zl1 for a spin. It can also be specified with a manual 6-speed ‘box to double its sheer driving pleasure.

All we need now is the official performance figures for this super muscle car.

The Camaro ZL1 will also offer Performance Traction Management (PTM) as standard equipment. Five PTM performance levels or modes are available to accommodate the given ambient and track conditions, driver experience/vehicle familiarity and driver comfort levels. They include:

  • Mode 1 – Traction control set for wet conditions, with stability control on and Magnetic Ride Control set on Tour.
  • Mode 2 – Traction control set for dry conditions, with stability control on and Magnetic Ride Control set on Tour.
  • Mode 3 – Traction control set on Sport 1, with stability control on and Magnetic Ride Control set on Sport.
  • Mode 4 – Traction control set on Sport 2, with stability control off and Magnetic Ride Control set on Sport.
  • Mode 5 – Traction control set on Race, with stability control off and Magnetic Ride Control set on Track. Launch control tuned for VHT-prepped drag strips.
