Audi’s new contender for Germany;s favorite motorsport DTM has been revealed in the flesh, and would you just look at it! Regardless of the technicalities, it’s an awesome object to be hold. The Audi A5 DTM is 5.01 meters long, 1.95 meters wide and 1.15 meters low. The wheelbase of all DTM vehicles is identical, i.e. 2,750 millimeters. Like its predecessor, the A5 DTM is powered by a V8 engine with an output of about 340 kW (460 HP). The six-speed transmission, now pneumatically operated using paddle shifters in the steering wheel, is a new development. Audi customer motorsport division, same guys responsible for the ultra-successful R8 LMS, announced they are now taking orders for the smaller TT RS racing car. And it starts at 180,000 euro which isn’t much for a full-on racing car. In comparison the BMW X4 Race Car cost nearly 300 grand. But this Audi is a front-wheel-drive and has a 380 hp output coming from a production-derived five-cylinder 2.5 liter turbo engine and has a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters. Audi is expanding its domination in the the motorsport world by offering the R8 LMS now in America. They just announced a homologation program that allows the R8 to enter American Grand-Am series. The car will makes its debut at Daytona 24 Hours in 2012. For use in the USA, quattro GmbH is modifying the GT3 race car of which more than 40 units have already been sold in the areas of the chassis, body, engine and suspension. The chassis is stiffened by a roll cage with wall thicknesses being increased to two millimetres according to the regulations.
