The Mazda 3 was caught by the spy photographers and as you can see from the photos, the 2009 model will bring a major redesign to the japanese car.

With a much more aggressive design, the Mazda 3 will be using the Ford Focus C1 platform, which means a wider and longer car.

In the engine department, the 2.0L with 148HP will get a small increase in power, while the optional 2.3L will be boosted to 2.5L, which means a 20-30HP increase.

Hopefully the Hannibal Lector mask is not part of the complete redesign…a 30 HP bump would be great, also hopefully the new speed3 is a sedan…many people like the hatchback, but the sedan is just so much better looking.

I don’t know why anyone under 45 yrs would want a station wagon. Please give us a freaking coupe! At least a 3 door mazda 2!!!!

Geez – If you judge your tastes by what everyone else has – then buy a conservative, in the box, unversatile, dullsville sedan and mix with the status quo.

If you are inclined to see beauty in the added versatility of form truly following function, and find bucking the status quo attractive – then hey, the hatch IS truly sexy. It just takes being sexy to get it.

Mazda 3’s are great cars! I must say though, the MazdaSpeed 3 is even better though. I’ve raced one a few times at some local autocrosses, and I must say, that thing has some serious out of the box kick to it!
